I recently returned from our annual camping holiday. This year we ventured north to Kalbarri. For those of you not familiar with Kalbarri it is approx. 7 hours drive north of Perth, has a population of approx. 1400 people and an average summer temperature of 33 degrees. I last visited Kalbarri as a young boy with my parents and brother and sister and the memories from this holiday are still vivid. I remember at the end of the holiday, my father driving 10 hours straight apart from refuelling stops back to Kalgoorlie sitting on 100 mph. This time I went there with my wife and three young boys. I commented to my wife on one of the many occasions that we were sitting under a tree trying to keep cool, that it did not matter that we were not staying in a 5 star resort in Bali (which would have been nice) or in an expensive beach house in Margaret River (even better). The boys could not have been happier – rolling around in the red dust, not wearing shoes, getting too much sun and making new friends from all walks of life. The holiday enabled us to pass on the same experiences that we enjoyed as children and was within our budget. Whilst the more expensive holidays may have also been enjoyable (and more to my wife’s and I liking!), by understanding what was important or the why behind our annual family holiday we were able to achieve our goal. Ultimately a family holiday enjoyed by all. The process of understanding your “why” is also very important to help you establish your goals and achieve them. Financial planning is not all about money – it is about the life you want to live, that provides you with purpose and makes you happy. As you contemplate your New Year’s Resolution’s for 2015, take the time to reflect on the “why” behind each of your resolutions to provide you with the best possible chance of following through and achieving them. If you would like to review your “why” in life or for assistance in establishing your goals and objectives, please contact us on 0499976058. Happy New Year to all!
